This program is led by NAU faculty member Michael Rulon.
This course will be an immersion experience in Vichy, in conjunction with the intensive French course at the CAVILAM institute. The CAVILAM institute is affiliated with the University Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand. Immersion is the best way to improve second language skills as well as provide a general multicultural education experience for students. Being in a small town in the center of France this summer, will make this invaluable experience possible. The program will complement the courses currently offered by the Global Languages and Culures Department.
Cross-cultural activities and excursions will allow students to engage with the local culture, learn about French history, and improve their language skills. The additional culture course will focus on French culture, personal experiences and individual research.
The French language will be used as much as possible according to the student's level of proficiency.
The requirements for this program are:
Must be at least 18 years old
In addition to the courses listed below, students will be required to take a French course at the CAVILAM language institute.
Students may select from any of the following courses: FRE 223, FRE 323, FRE 423.doc. Students may earn additional French transfer credits from CAVILAM language institute. In total, students will receive 6 credits by participating in the program - 2 NAU credits and 4 transfer credits.
In-country Dates: June 5 – June 25, 2016
Participants will stay with a homestay family for the duration of the program.
