Summer Program in Intensive Arabic

Meknes, Morocco

This program is led by NAU faculty member Professor Mounia Mnouer.Meknes
Join fellow NAU students on a four week summer immersion program for non-  native speakers of Arabic to gain language skills and an understanding of the  Arabic Language and culture in an Arabic speaking context!  The Summer  Program in Intensive Arabic (SPIA) will take place at Moulay Ismail University  in Meknes, Morocco. 

Students will gain skills in five language areas: speaking, writing, reading,  listening and cultural understanding. Students will meet with conversation  partners twice a week to enhance their cultural understanding and improve  Arabic language skills. The curricular calendar, organized into four weeks, will  address a new theme each week assigned by the Arabic instructor. One lesson  will be covered each weekday, Monday through Friday. The textbook, Ahlan wa Sahlan, will be used along with cultural and historical excursions to meet the goals of this course.

EXCURSIONSMorocco 2013 2
Weekend cultural and historical excursions include; downtown/old town Meknes, Casablanca, Fes, capital city Rabat, 
Volubilis (Roman Ruins) and Mahdiha Beach.

Completion of ARB 102 with a grade of C or better
2.5 GPA
A valid US passport

Earn four NAU credits for ARB 201 or ARB 202 based on their test performance that will be taken during the program. Students can elect to take credit for SA 223: Arabic Language and Moroccan History instead of ARB 201/202. 

In-country dates: May 18- June 16, 2015

Program cost includes lodging at a youth hostel close to downtown (3 minute walk). The number of students per room can range from 2-6 depending on availability in the hotel.

The youth hostel will provide a continental breakfast, but students are responsible for all other meals.
