City and region highlights
Sochi State University is located in Russia’s Olympic capital Sochi , host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017 and FIFA World Cup in 2018 and many others. Sochi is a Modern city with sophisticated infrastructure and beautiful architecture.  Situated right on the coast of the Black Sea and surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains, it allows for a unique ambiance of coastal and mountain attractions. Because of its mild climate, Sochi is a popular resort with approximately 5 million tourists annually.  Sochi is also a center of innovations, a center of business attraction, and a vital scientific center in the South of Russia.

Center of attraction
Historically, Sochi has always been a popular resort destination in Russia. The Olympic Games in 2014 stimulated the region's infrastructure development, transportation accessibility and international interest. The city is divided into four regions: Lazarevsky, Central, Khosta and Adler. It also includes the mountain village of Krasnaya Polyana, a world famous ski resort. 

Sochi is famous for its unique natural environment that allows for a year-round activity: mild coastal winters with an average temperature of 45F with nearby snowy mountain resort of Krasnaya Polyana with Olympic slopes as well as hot summers by the Black Sea and refreshing mountain air,waterfalls, and forests in just a 45 minute drive.

You will never get bored!
Sochi hosts approximately 200 major events annually, including mega-events in sports, cultural, political and business spheres – Formula 1, FIFA World Cup, singing competition “New wave”, film festival “Kinotavr”, AtomExpo, Russian Investment Forum etc.
Activities one can do in Sochi: hockey, sailing, mountain climbing, windsurfing, mountain skiing, mountain biking, ballet, opera, theater, concerts, museums, etc. 

Just an hour flight separates Sochi from regional capital Krasnodar, in 2.5 hours you can enjoy the view of the Kazan Kremlin and the Petropavlovsky Cathedral. A three-hour flight to the north – and you will be in St Petersburg.  The same three-hour flight to north-east will take you to Ekaterinburg and right to the Ural mountains.

Sochi State University was established in 1989 as the Educational and Scientific Center for Training and Professional Development of staff for recreation and tourism industry and quickly gained reputation for being a leader in

preparing high-skilled experts in tourism. In 2019 it is a Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Sochi State University”, a key university in Krasnodar region and a classical university with 5 faculties that offer 23 baccalaureate programs, 13 Master’s programs and 10 fellowship programs. SSU prepares experts in tourism, economics, management, law, architecture, construction, design, psychology, public relations etc.

Sochi State University campus is situated in Sochi central district with a bus stop right by the campus. To get to and from Sochi, you can use a plane (Sochi has an international airport 30 minutes away from the city center), a train (modern trains can take you to regional capital Krasnodar, mountain resort Krasnaya Polyana or anywhere else) or even a ship (you can take a cruise on the Black sea or board a fast boat to Turkey or Georgia). sochi campus
Sochi is a modern city with all its infrastructure including shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, hospitals etc. Sochi State University campus has a students’ canteen, a medical center, a publishing center, a Russian Language Center where foreigners learn Russian, a volunteer center that is the largest university volunteer center in Russia, a media center etc. Students can play volleyball, football, basketball and other kinds of sports in university sports center.


Sochi State University offers the following classes in English in Hospitality Business: Hospitality Service Process, Hospitality Equipment, Quality Control in Hospitality, Hospitality Management, etc. 
Credits: 1 ZET = 36 academic hours. One academic year = 60 ZET.

Getting Credit for Studies Abroad

Students who wish to receive academic credit (aside from general elective and liberal studies credit) must have their courses pre-approved by the appropriate department. To view a list of academic advisors, please review the information in our Academics section. Once you apply through our website, you will be able to enter the classes you wish to take electronically. These classes can be reviewed and approved directly by faculty once entered. If you would like courses abroad to count for general elective credit or liberal studies credit only, please contact your Education Abroad advisor for those approvals.


Academic Year: September 1 - June 30
Spring Semester: February 10 - June 30 


Sochi State University has a fully functioning dormitory with single and double rooms available to the students. Students are free to choose any housing option to their liking including a large number of city hotels and private apartments. Costs for renting a one-bedroom apartment start at 15.000 rubles (~$250 USD) per month.
